The 12 Lodge Method

Reset. Balance. Wellness. Residential drug and alcohol recovery for men in Ottawa, with human care, practical learning and support beyond your stay.

A small, focused community

Residential addiction treatment in Ottawa

The recommended residential stay is 42 days. With no more than 10 residents in an all-male setting on Ottawa’s Rideau River, the 12 Lodge Method brings together individual counselling, therapeutic groups, wellness and preparation for returning home.

For men and families exploring private addiction treatment in Ottawa or elsewhere in Ontario, the first step is a confidential admissions conversation about individual needs. Required withdrawal management must be completed with appropriate providers before residential admission; 12 Lodge will not initially offer in-house medical detox.

Shorter or extended stays may be developed when clinically appropriate, taking into account progress, treatment needs, outside responsibilities and the discharge environment.

Each resident will receive at least 3 individual counselling sessions per week, approximately 60 minutes each, alongside weekday groups, daily check-ins and regular contact with the residential team.

Three connected stages

Reset · Balance · Wellness

01

Reset

Understand the pattern

Explore substance use, its consequences and the circumstances that led to treatment. Develop awareness of personal patterns, beliefs, emotions and relationships in a supportive setting.

  • Substance-use education and personal patterns
  • Triggers, cravings, guilt and shame
  • Trauma-informed awareness and emotional understanding

02

Balance

Build the skills

Turn awareness into practical tools. Work on emotional regulation, communication, boundaries, daily routines and responsibility, with opportunities to practise new ways of responding.

  • Coping skills and DBT-informed skills where appropriate
  • Relationships, communication and healthy boundaries
  • Sleep, nutrition, movement and everyday responsibilities

03

Wellness

Carry recovery into everyday life

Prepare for life beyond the residence. Connect recovery skills with family, work, recreation, community support and a continuing-care plan that reflects your circumstances.

  • Relapse prevention and return-home preparation
  • Community connection and meaningful activity
  • Continuing-care planning and long-term support

From arrival to returning home

Intake & orientation

Routine admissions will normally take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. A designated intake process welcomes, assesses and orients new residents while protecting the continuity of scheduled counselling and groups.

Learning & practice

Partially closed groups support a consistent peer community. Education, guided reflection, individual work, DBT-informed skills where appropriate and supervised activities help connect learning with daily life.

Continuing care

Aftercare is included — the 12 Lodge Method continues beyond the residence rather than ending at discharge. Discharge planning begins during treatment and is reviewed regularly. It may involve counselling, medical follow-up, community meetings, housing, employment support and family counselling according to individual needs.
